- There were a number of purpose built pre NFS stations in use on the formation of Dorset Fire Brigade in 1948, These included Lyme Regis, Portland, Weymouth, Dorchester, Sherborne, Sturminster, Gillingham, Wareham and Poole. Bridport was a converted market building as the appliance room and a disused police station as the accommodation, and Swanage and Ferndown stations were converted churches

- 80 years ago today (15th August 1940) we attended our first fire call which was a peat fire at Uddens. At the time Ferndown was part of the new Wimborne and Cranborne Rural District Council Fire Brigade. The disused Methodist Chapel was converted to the fire station at a cost of £195 and remains our home to this day being the most characteristic station in Dorset! |
